Celebrating Craftsmanship

Blossa Hantverksglögg is a tribute to classic Scandinavian craftsmanship, a limited edition non-alcoholic annual flavor for the retail market.

Blossa Hantverksglögg Apelsin Pomerans celebrates the traditional Swedish craft of kurbits in collaboration with artist Åse Larsjos.

For 2019 we celebrate the Swedish ceramic industry nestled within the apple orchard regions of southern Sweden.

The 2018 Hantverksglögg combines the 1000 year-old embroidery craft with the lush black currant bushes of the typical Swedish cottage garden.

Needlework has been practiced in Sweden since the days of the Vikings, and has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years through its use in both fashion and interior design.

The theme for 2017 was Swedish glass design, which has it’s heritage in the forests of Småland, a region also rich with lingon and juniper berries.

The design created a striking impact in the retail environment, breaking the traditional codes of what glögg should look like and challenging category conventions.

For 2016, blueberry and ginger were combined with the age-old traditions of Swedish woodworking.

Blossa Hantverksglögg

Blossa Glögg has dominated the Scandinavian market for traditional mulled wine for more than a century. Unlike most, if not all, of its competitors, Blossa uses real wine and high-quality spices and the process is still handcrafted in spite of the large production volumes. The question Blossa’s management asked themselves – and The Studio – was: how can we emphasise all of this, other than merely saying it?

The idea that developed was to launch a series of limited edition products that in itself represented craftsmanship: Blossa Hantverksglögg (Blossa Craft Glögg).

Blossa Hantverksglögg is a tribute to classic Scandinavian craftsmanship, a limited edition non-alcoholic flavour for the retail market. With each edition Blossa introduces a new craft and new flavour addition within the concept of Hantverksglögg.

For 2016, blueberry and ginger were combined with the age-old traditions of Swedish woodcraft. The packaging technique of a printed shrink sleeve allowed the design to cover the entire surface of the bottle where the blueberry coloured stain appears to run down a tooled wooden bottle.

The theme for the second year was Swedish glass design, which has it’s heritage in the forests of Småland a region which is also rich with lingon and juniper berries. The design simulates hand blown semi-transparent red glass with applied white dots, reflecting both lingonberries and snow.

In 2018 featured the art of embroidery, a perfect embodiment of the care, patience and skill needed for something truly hand made and crafted. The flavour was black currant prevalent in Swedish gardens all over the country, combined with a seasonal favourite, star anise.

For 2019 we celebrated the Swedish ceramic industry nestled within the apple orchard regions of southern Sweden. For the packaging design, apple coloured glaze appears to drip down the bottle meeting the vanilla toned matte surface of the ceramics.

In 2021 we celebrate the traditional Swedish craft of kurbits painting in collaboration with artist Åse Larsjos of Dalarna. The semi-transparent kurbits decor blends with the colour of the mulled wine, allowing the warm orange and pomerans taste to glow.

The design created a striking impact in the retail environment, breaking the traditional codes of what glögg should look like and challenging category conventions. The products gained immediate success and the entire production batch has been selling out within weeks, making the Hantverksglögg a sought-after collectible from its very first year.
